The council has now decided two years after we purchased the block of land to change the name of the street as there is another street that sounds the same, but spelt differently.
One might ask why was this not picked up two to three years ago?? The street name was officially changed in August 2014. In October 2014 the street sign was changed and it took three men and two trucks to change it - what a waste of ratepayers’ money and resources.
Changing the name of your street with businesses is not easy. It has taken five attempts to change it with Telstra. You cannot change the name online because it is not in their database.
Delivery drivers cannot find the new street because it is not in the system.
Council stated that with two streets sounding the same emergency services could attend the wrong street and therefore cause delay in attending fire, accidents or sick people, which I understand, but if the new street name is not in the system how are they going to find the new street?
We can’t change our street name with Origin until we have council rates with the new street name, but Hastings Council sent our last rates notice in October to the old street name.
The council obviously haven’t updated the council database.
If the council had done their job properly in the first place they would have checked through their database before the naming of streets was approved and this would have avoided the stress, confusion and added expense experienced by the residents.
The council stated that the two people responsible for approving the street names have now retired - how convenient. They were employed by the council and the council should be held accountable for the big mistake that has been made.
Shame on Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for a job not well done.
