Two years and 120,000km on the odometer, Mike has returned home.
The result of his epic adventure on the road and over the back tracks is a brand new travel bible for cash strapped, frugal or budget conscious travellers. Australia Free is a tome dedicated to travelling the country without spending a cent.
"I kept hearing the same story - "It can be expensive to travel. What is there to see and do that is free?"," Mike said. "That's when the idea for Australia Free was first implanted - a book written so that people can have a great holiday and not break the bank."
Mike is an avid four-wheeled driver, traveller and explorer. He has camped, caravanned, backpacked and slept under the stars.
He has owned a variety of businesses from private charters to tagalong tours, classroom adventure and study tours and invented the 4WD product, the Foxwing Awning.
But Mike has spent two years doing what he loves most - telling people how great Australia really is.
"Ths was a solo journey over two years. I zig-zagged over 120,000km from the top end to Western Australia and Tasmania," he said. "This book is as simple as I could make it. It shows people where they can stay and play for free.
"I thought I knew a lot about Australia. After two years on the road, turns out I now know a whole lot more!"
Of all the weird and wonderful experiences Mike had on his travels, one of his most memorable was watching a 4WD pull up in a remote camping spot from which nine men, two dogs and an emu disembarked.
Mike's book is available for purchase online at www.australiafree.com.au or can be purchased directly from the author at Settlement City outside Big W between December 4-7.
