Friday, 1pm: Senior police officers from Port Macquarie and Kempsey are at the scene of an incident on the Oxley Highway just outside of Wauchope this morning. 

The road into Wauchope remains closed to all traffic with diversions through King Creek Road still in place.

Friday, 7.30am: The Oxley Highway is closed in both directions about one kilometre east of Wauchope due to a serious accident.

A diversion is in place for light vehicles with westbound motorists using King Creek Road and eastbound motorists using Cameron Street.

This diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles which are being parked near the accident scene.

Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time.

Emergency services and traffic crews are at the accident site.

The road is expected to be closed for some hours.
