Kevin Rudd has paid tribute to 'democratiser' Gough Whitlam, a man who 'swam against the tide on everything'

Kevin Rudd says the death of Gough Whitlam has left a "gap in his heart" as he paid tribute to the Labor legend as a "moderniser" and "democrastiser" who took on the faceless men "head on" to reform the ALP. Mr Rudd said he stood by his 2012 declaration that Mr Whitlam's 1975 dismissal was an "utterly" unconstitutional manoeuvre and that there was a "perfectly constitutional means by which to resolve that crisis".
