Not only is there some positive news – in that NSW has toppled Western Australia to become the economic leader in the country – but importantly the local growth is in key industries.
Port Macquarie and the wider Hastings has always been strongly bound to housing and development.
So the initial scan of the economic data is pleasing.
What will give more weight to the discussion and the future for the area will be the release of the business confidence survey.
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams has pointed to the stewardship of the state government as instrumental in that confidence boost.
This also has some merit, but it does not tell the full story.
