For the first time, the Hastings will have a hirsute competitor in the planet's premier facial hair event.
The Hastings' James Holder, more commonly known as Jimbo the Barber, and Sean Edwards will stop in Los Angeles on Wednesday, before scooting up to Oregon for the championships.
Jimbo will compete inside the 3000-person Keller Auditorium in downtown Portland on Saturday in one of the 17 categories.
He'll be styled, by his Comboyne colleague Sean, as a bushranger competing in the character category.
The boys will be taking along The Cutthroat Journal, Australia's first quarterly magazine about barber culture, of which Jimbo is the editor and Sean the publisher.
"It's about developing the magazine over there, meeting people and working with new contacts," Sean said.
Fortunately Sean used to live in Portland and has plenty of familiar faces on the ground to help them there, as well as later in Los Angeles.
But Jimbo isn't worried about their success; he just wants to get to America for the first time and chow down on some top tucker.
"I'm looking forward to the food the most, to be honest," the barber said.
"Well, that and going to Disneyland."
The visit to Mickey Mouse in Anaheim will happen once official business is concluded.
"I'm going on all the rides, just so I can show my kids how much fun I'm having," Jimbo said.
There is bound to be lots of laughter on the long flight to LAX before the Mid-North Coast duo's trip continues.
These Australians might be friendly and fuzzy-faced, but Jimbo reckons they'll be making a huge splash.
"Look at what Crocodile Dundee did over there in the '80s.
"I might walk down a platform, on peoples' heads, in cowboy boots for the competition.
"Anything could happen."
