But the State Emergency Service had only received two calls for help by 2pm.
A large fig tree fell on Fernhill Drive near the Oxley Highway in the morning, and was cleared by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council by 3pm.
Powerful winds, which reached a top of 67 km/h at 12.18pm, ripped up part of the roof of Rebel Sport on Gordon Street. A spokesman said SES crews were working to fix the problem through the afternoon.
Weatherzone's Kim Westcott said Wednesday will have the strongest winds for the week, thanks to the cool southerlies which follow the cold front moving up from Victoria.
Conditions will improve on Thursday, Ms Westcott said, as winds become much lighter and balmy temperatures continue.
