Kempsey man James Deeth, 18, appeared before the magistrate in Kempsey Local Court on Monday morning.
He did not enter a plea to the charge of being an accessory after the fact to murder, following the alleged stabbing of a 25-year-old man about 1.40am on Sunday.
Police allege Mr Deeth and a 16-year-old Kempsey boy, who cannot be named, were involved in a fight with the victim outside the Commonwealth Bank on Horton St.
Police also allege the boy then pulled a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim in the chest.
The victim was treated at the scene, but died at Port Macquarie Base Hospital two hours later. Mr Deeth was granted conditional bail on Monday, but this was prevented when the prosecutor appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
Mr Deeth handed himself in at Kempsey Police Station about 2pm on Sunday, with the 16-year-old turning up to do the same five hours later.
Police allege the duo fled the scene in a red Ford ute, while others on the street went to the victim's aid.
The 16-year-old was refused bail when he faced Kempsey Children's Court on Monday.
Both matters were adjourned until November.
