PORT Macquarie will be hit by gargantuan winds on Wednesday, with heavy rain to follow until the end of the week.
Weatherzone issued a gale warning for the region’s expected huge coastal swells.
South westerly winds are predicted to reach 45 knots offshore today, which equates to nearly 85km/h. The accompanying southerly swell will bob between three and five metres this morning, before falling to between two and three metres in the afternoon.
Even experienced oceangoers were encouraged to stay away from the shore this morning. The Bureau of Metoerology issued a gale warning and an extreme weather warning for strong swells for Wednesday.
“It’s important that people not go rock fishing: That’s probably better left for another day,” Weatherzone’s Kim Westcott said.
Showers are also predicted to lash the coast and increase in intensity as the week winds to a close.
Between one and five millimetres is expected today and tomorrow, but the bucketing will begin in earnest on Friday.
