Police said the robbery happened between 5pm on Saturday and 7am on Sunday when the ground floor front door of a shop was forced open.

"An unknown person or persons gained entry and proceeded to ransack the store," a police spokesman said.

Several boxes of confectionery were stolen from the shop. The restaurant was also broken into, and had an unknown amount of soft drink stolen. 

"It appears the offender or offenders left through the rear door as there was a trail of lollies leading to the back gate."

Timbertown's owner David Waite said other buildings were broken into, but the store was the worst hit in the attack. 

"There's a fair bit of damage to the doors, some of them are snapped off," Mr Waite said.

"They've scattered things and made a bit of a mess."

There has been some good news in the disarray, with forensic police pouring over the scene on Monday morning.

"(The thieves) brought alcohol on site with them and left all these cans behind," Mr Waite said.

"For some reason the cans have got some blood on them.

"I'm fairly confident that, sooner or later, these people will get caught."

The park owner and his wife Alison celebrated four years running the tourist centre in June, and said the robbery and vandalism marked an upsetting end to winter.  

"It's disappointing because it looks like this was young people, and we do engage and employ quite a few youth here.

"Overall it's really disappointing to drive in on a Sunday morning, with the sun on your face, and then realise something's really wrong."
