Mr Munro moved to Port Macquarie in 1980 to take up the post of deputy principal at Westport High School and joined Legacy eight years later because he wanted to give back to the organisation that had helped him.
Thirty three legatees assist 693 widows and dependants of deceased or incapacitated returned servicemen in our region.
Additionally there are 30 friends of Legacy who help during Badge Week and other fund-raising occasions and six part-time staff.
The Legacy badge is a badge of honour for all deceased Australian veterans and their dependants, symbolising in its torch the undying flame of service and sacrifice.
Badges ($5 - $5000), pens ($5), wrist bands ($3), and uniformed bears ($15) can also be bought at Legacy stalls at: Legacy Op Shop in Cameron Street, Wauchope; outside IGA and the Hastings Co-Op Department Store, Wauchope; Coles Lake Innes, Emerald Downs; Commonwealth, St George banks; Port Central and Settlement City shopping centres; IGA at Growers Market; Panthers Port Macquarie; The Medicine Chest and Bunnings Warehouse.
Legacy also provides personal support where there is no family nearby.
All monies received will be used in Port Macquarie-Hastings, Wauchope and Camden Haven area.
Assistance to veteran's widows and families includes financial help if required, social outings and functions to help avoid isolation and assistance in dealing with various government agencies.
This week volunteers from the Army, Navy and Airforce cadets and Westport and Port Macquarie high schools will be out and about this week selling Legacy merchandise at businesses and retail outlets.
