R U OK? Day is a national initiative to improving mental health by getting people to ask, listen, encourage and follow up with friends.
The day takes places on September 11, but Port Macquarie Lions got in early with great gusto despite yesterday's gusty winds.
Organiser Colin Hardwick said an incredible number of cars called through the car park.
But he lamented the lack of appropriate parking near the Lions' marquee.
"We're not discouraged," Mr Hardwick said.
"We've got a lot of ideas from people, and there's been quite a few people come and talk with us."
Beyondblue ambassador Nicole Graham spoke about depression and anxiety with people at the landmark. She also threw her support behind future mental health endeavours.
"We're already looking forward to next year," Mr Hardwick said.
"They next step is to be able to communicate better with more people."
The group will move to a higher pedestestrian area like the Town Beach concourse next year.
