They were beaten convincingly 40-18 by the Old Bar Beach Pirates on Saturday.
Departing coach Phil Trembath simply put it down as a missed opportunity.
"We just didn't show up to play," he said.
"I don't think we were in the right frame of mind to be honest."
The Sharks were on attack early and crossed the line first through Ben Cudmore.
It was the backrowers first try for the year fittingly on his 100 game anniversary.
But that's about as far as the celebrations went.
The Pirates fought back and found themselves in front at the half time break.
The Sharks worked themselves back into the game early in the second half and managed to regain the lead at 18-16.
But again, that was short lived and the Pirates eventually cruised away scoring tries at will.
Trembath said once his team hit the lead in the second half they were guilty of shutting up shop.
"I think once they got in front they got a false sense of security and just thought it was going to happen for them from there," he said.
"But it didn't and Old Bar were more hungry for it. Full credit to them."
Trembath said there were a few shinning lights in a disappointing performance.
"The guys up the middle did well," he said.
"Ben Cudmore, the front rowers, Chase Brock, Danny Graham and Adamm Greenaway tried hard all game." As the old saying goes the Sharks will always have next year but not with Trembath.
He announced he would step down from the role earlier this month.
"I've tried my best and given my all and I've enjoyed it," he said.
"But it's time for me to take a step back from it.
"I couldn't just walk away completely from the club so I'll be around helping out in some way."
