Zone chairman Neil Tubb said the clubs had no hesitation in providing funds for the worthy project.
"Most of us are parents and can understand the grief and sadness parents must experience through the loss of an infant. We wanted to be of assistance in some small way," he said.
"These packages are an effective way of satisfying that wish.
"The miracle of birth, the renewal of life and the wonders of motherhood are something we all cherish. However, sometimes mother nature decides to tragically cut short a young life, the consequences of which are devastating to the parents who need much support during the grieving process.
"The Lions Clubs of Port Macquarie, Tacking Point, Wauchope, Lake Cathie/Bonny Hills and Laurieton have recognised the need for that support through a donation of four 'Bears of Hope' packages to the maternity ward of the Port Macquarie Base Hospital."
The 'Bears of Hope' is an Australian registered not-for-profit organisation dedicated to, among other things, delivering infant loss support and assisting the healing journey for families experiencing a loss.
Sister Sandra Eadie, Nurse in Charge of the ward said the packages are helpful and effective in assisting the grieving parents through the grief process, and we are very grateful for the Lions support.
The 66 clubs in the Lions District 201N1, extending from Forster-Tuncurry to Yamba and west to Moree, raised over $5200 which enabled Lions to purchase 92 packages for distribution to hospitals throughout the Lions District.
The local Lions clubs welcome enquiries from the community on 'Bears of Hope', any other project undertaken by Lions, and they welcome suggestions for Lions assistance in the community.
