Meteorologist with weatherzone Guy Dixon says our area will see an easing of the heavy rainfall on Friday and over the weekend.
“But you will still experience continued showers of around 5 millimetres today while Saturday will also see a possible shower but only slight rainfall of between 1mm and 5mm,” he said.
“A complex low pressure system sitting north of our region and just off the coast has been responsible for the heavy rain in the area. But it will continue to move away today and over the remainder of the weekend.
“Lighter showers are typical of these rain events as they move out of the area.
“This means that conditions will be easing in the short term.
“Sunday should feature mostly sunny conditions,” he said.
Off the back of the improved sunshine, temperatures will gradually increase too.
Mr Dixon said today’s temperature should reach just below 20 degrees and continue to warm gradually to around 24 degrees on Monday.
“The main aspect of this weather event is that conditions are beginning to fine up and get better,” he said.
“Friday's wind conditions will be the strongest reaching between 20 and 30 kilometres per hour from the south.
“But as the system moves away these winds will decrease and tend more westerly as the weekend progresses.
“These westerly winds will be less moist - they will be drier - and responsible for the lack of rainfall into the start of next week.”
Mr Dixon said Port Macquarie had received 33mm of rainfall in the 24 hours to 9am on Thursday; 35.8mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday and 19.4mm in the same period to Tuesday.
