Organisers of the March in August are expecting a bigger turnout than the March in March event as momentum builds for the grassroots peaceful protest.

The marches represent a vote of no confidence in the Abbott government. Spokeswoman Jennie Norris-Alexander said the federal government’s policies and decisions had affected more people since the inaugural march.

“People tend to think it’s a Labor/Liberal thing but it’s not,” she said about the march.

“It’s about what is best for the country and we should have a voice.”

The march will begin at 10.30am tomorrow  at Westport Park, with protesters making their way to the Town Green before returning to Westport Park. People can have their say during an open microphone session after the march returns to Westport Park.

March in August runs from 10.30am to 2pm. The umbrella movement, March Australia, started as protests across the country in March.

March Australia does not restrict the collective goal to a limited issue, but encourages supporters to march for the issues important to them under the collective sentiment “Australians united for a better government”, the Facebook page said.

“The purest and most powerful of campaigns are grown from grassroots and that is exactly what this has been - built from the bottom-up,” the Facebook page said.

Marches are organised across the country including Melbourne, Adelaide, Cairns, the Central Coast, Coffs Harbour, Geraldton and Hobart.
