It is the ninth year the 3 Rivers Mini-Marathon will be held and it gets bigger and better each year.
Last year, 150 competitors tackled the challenging but fun course and organisers are hoping for more again this time around.
The event, hosted by the Port Macquarie Rowing Club, is for everyone who has a non-motorised water craft.
It is the first year official sponsors have jumped on board, so to speak, in an attempt to grow the popular day and build it up as a community event.
One of the organisers, Kate Hartley, said participants can be as serious or as relaxed during the race as they like.
"There's of course the real competitors but then there's people who just enjoy the day on the water," she said.
"Last year we had one person who finished the race last in a peddle kayak and he finished reading a book before he crossed the line.
"If the weather is good it really is a fantastic day out on the water rowing down those three rivers is just picturesque."
People from all over NSW will arrive in Port Macquarie to take part in the event.
In the past a competitor has come from as far away as Tasmania.
It starts at Telegraph Point on the Wilson River, under the highway bridge, and finishes at the Port Macquarie Rowing Club.
This year the club is sponsoring the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW Port Macquarie Chapter. Some of the money raised on the day will go to the organisation to help people who endure difficult lives. The fellowship provides support to the carers of those with mental illness.
Late entries will be accepted on the day from 7am followed by a safety briefing at 8.15am with the start gun sounding at 9am.
