A key feature of the new interchange will be a new overpass located 600 metres south of the intersection which will traverse the Pacific Highway. Other works will include local service roads and roundabouts as well as a left-in, left-out access to improve safety for motorists entering and exiting the Pacific Highway.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Services Andrew Stoner said the project was part of planning and pre-construction works along the 37 kilometre Oxley Highway to Kempsey upgrade.
“Local businesses and land owners and NSW Trade & Investment have contributed to this project by providing funding and land, in addition to funding from the Australian and NSW governments,” Mr Stoner said.
Federal Member for Lyne David Gillespie said the new interchange would provide a grade separated traffic arrangement to reduce crash risks at the existing intersection of Sancrox Road and the Pacific Highway.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said the Sancrox Road interchange is expected to be completed by the middle of next year with around 50 direct jobs and 150 indirect jobs to be created during the life of the project.
