On Sunday night, he spent his first night since the accident out of the ward at Westmead Hospital’s Ronald McDonald House, where his father has been staying.
“Curtis is still making great progress, every day. He has been having hydrotherapy sessions for a few weeks, and loves getting into the pool,” family friend David Elliott said.
“He still requires the help of an oxygen mask when he sleeps, why that is nobody seems to know, when other things are making great progress.”
Whilst it is still unclear how long Curtis will remain at Westmead, the hospital has begun the task of looking into what rehabilitation services are available in the area for Curtis upon his return.
“It will depend on what stage he is at, when he gets back,” Mr Elliott said.
“Curtis has been positive the whole way. I don’t think he has ever thought he wouldn’t walk again.”
Only one thing, it seems, is for sure – his community will be right there to support him every step of the way.
