It’s the cross over of two annual meteor showers - delta aquarids and perseids - and August is a great time to get out and have a look.
Perseids - much bigger versions of shooting stars - are associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle, according to the experts.
“It’s unusual. The end of one meteor shower coincides with the beginning of another,” Hastings-based astronomer Dave Reneke said.
You’ll have to be up early though. The best time to see the showers is between 1am and 4am. Mr Reneke recommends looking east, but you have to be patient.
“There’s never a guarantee with these things,” he said.
The Perseids peak is from August 10-13.
