Members of the company performing in the production 2 One Another last night and tonight at the Glasshouse, have generously given their time for a number of educational events while here.
A free creative dance workshop for dance students in years 9-12 gave them an insight into the hard work and discipline required to become a professional dancer.
After a contemporary warm-up class, participants got to learn some choreography and composition tasks used in the making of the exciting 2 One Another production.
Similarly, later in the day, local vocational dance students and professionals experienced a Cunningham-based technique class to give them some grounding for company artistic director Rafael Bonachela's highly physical and technical style of movement.
Those lucky enough to take part on the Glasshouse stage were then guided through a section of 2 One Another, led by SDC's dance director Amy Hollingworth and a company dancer.
Yesterday 180 excited students joined Glasshouse members for a sneak peak at the SDC during the rehearsal for the performance of 2 One Another.
It was another example of how the company has made itself available to the people of the Hastings as they prepared to show why they are considered one of the world's best.
There was a limited amount of time for a Q & A with some of the dancers before they prepared for the evening's performance.
The performance is set against a stunning digital backdrop of motion design and animation and features an exceptional soundtrack - seamlessly embracing Baroque to electronica - shot through with poetry fragments created and utilised during the development of the work.
It has been recognised with multiple awards including most outstanding choreography, most outstanding performance by a company and most outstanding female dancer at the Australian Dance Awards 2013; best ensemble and best female dancer at the Green Room Awards 2012 and best female dancer at the Helpmann Awards 2012.
