A meeting has been called between interested parties for tomorrow at 6pm at the Peloton Cafe at Gordon Street Cycles.
The organiser, Craig Maltman, said he hopes to be able to form a committee to start a club.
"The only way to move forward is to start a committee and a club," he said.
"Hopefully we can get a few people there and get this going."
He said he had seen an increase of interest from fellow riders and also on the Facebook page he created Port Macquarie needs a BMX track.
"Everywhere I go I have people asking me how its going and if we have one yet," he said.
Another who has thrown support behind the idea is Shannon Jobson. Jobson has raced in several world titles with seventh being her best result.
She moved to Port Macquarie about five years ago.
"The closest track for me is Taree," she said.
"And after working for nine or 10 hours a day, the last thing I want to do is travel to Taree and back to practise."
Instead, Jobson took up another emerging sport in town roller derby.
"If we had the facilities here, yeah I'd get back to racing for sure," she said.
"In the whole scheme of things it's not a very expensive to get up and running.
"And Port could probably easily get an open event here every year which would put back money into the town."
Jobson said she would attend the meeting tomorrow and hoped to work closely with the organisers and said she may put her hand up to offer her services as a coach when the time came.
