Amelia Humphreys is the only girl from the Hastings to make it through regionals.

And she'll be doing her best to take out the title of the best young female surfer in the state.

“I’m feeling both anxious and excited, because I know I’m competing against the state’s best junior surfers,” Humphreys said.

It’s not the first time the young talent will try her hand at the competition.

Last year, she qualified for the state titles hosted at Maroubra. But next week, she hopes having the competition on home turf will help improve her odds of taking the win.

“Having the comp at home will definitely help,” she said. “I’ve surfed all the breaks it could be held at, and it will be a lot easier accessing the comp.”

Humphreys surfs Lighthouse Beach day in and day out, and she’s hoping the stars might align and see the comp hosted on the break she knows like the back of her hand.

But no matter how the cards may fall, getting to this level of competition is a feat in itself.

The 15-year-old has been surfing for just three years, and if this achievement is anything to go by, it seems there’s plenty in store for a bright future in the sport.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Town Green Inn at 5pm on Sunday night.
