Iftar refers to the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan and is shared with friends, family and relatives.
Community leaders from across the Hastings and representatives from many faiths enjoyed a meal at Sails Resort.
Port Macquarie dentist, Dr Tarek Kashdan was among a number of speakers to reflect on diversity and respect.
"Our differences don't pull us apart, they bring us together," Dr Kashdan said.
