The sight of traction engines powering through the streets of Wauchope is a rare one these days, but that’s made it even more special this weekend.

The vintage machines powered from Timbertown to Wauchope Railway Station on Saturday as part of this year’s Steam Festival.
The vintage institution’s owner, David Waite, said the big and beautiful constructs have been just one feature in a weekend of highlights which continues today.
“It’s been a great weekend so far, and it looks like it’ll continue,” Mr Waite said.
“The weather’s been superb, the attendance numbers are really strong and everyone’s have a good time.”
The effort required to get so many steam contraptions in the one place has bred a special kind in kinship between aficionados and casual observers.
“There’s a real camaraderie in the place at the moment, and you just don’t see it anywhere else.”
Timbertown’s owner will have to settle for observing others enjoy themselves, as he’s far too busy to take part in much recreation at this year’s festival.
“I never really muck around with much of the gear myself and have a bit of fun, so it’ll be great if I’ve got enough time for that later on.”
