Highway service centres offer a variety of services for road users to help alleviate the effects of fatigue, one of the main killers on NSW roads.
The policy on service centres along the Pacific Highway has been in place since 1998 with existing sites strategically positioned at regular intervals.
“Highway service centres encourage motorists to stop, revive, survive and take breaks when they recognise the warning signs of fatigue,” Oxley MP Andrew Stoner said. “It’s important highway service centres are provided at convenient points along popular routes.”
Most service centres are close to bypassed towns to ensure economic benefits can remain with those communities.
A number of further updates are now needed, particularly to the sites at Woolgoolga, Nambucca Heads and Port Macquarie.
The discussion paper is now available on the Pacific Highway website and available for public comment until June 20.
