A PRESTIGIOUS award has lifted the profile of an already popular bar and restaurant in Port Macquarie.
Zebu Bar+Grill has been awarded single wine glass status for its wine list by respected publication
Australian Gourmet Traveller.
These awards are not handed out lightly, and bar manager Brent Tozer said he was “pleased as punch”.
“I’m very happy ... it will be a bit more recognition for us,” Mr Tozer said.
He said there had been a concerted effort to expand the wine list during the past six
months, which now features 140 wines.
“We have a lot more wine by the glass and a good across-the-board mix of white and red varieties.
“We also started a Museum list, with wines from 1990 to 1999.”
These include a rare La Chapelle 1990 from the Rhone Valley, a Chateau Margaux from Bordeaux, and an Opus One from the Napa Valley in California.
Mr Tozer is quick to point out not all the wines offered at the bar and restaurant are “crazy
expensive”.
“It is important to still offer wines that are accessible to
everyone,” he said.
Australian wines are not neglected, either. There is a selection from all the major vineyards
across the country, including Cassegrain Shiraz and Riesling.
The eatery and bar also has expanded its selection of Tyrell’s Wines in anticipation of
a special event in October.
An Evening with Bruce Tyrell is an exclusive dinner featuring five courses balanced with five wines from the well-known Tyrell’s Vineyards.
“Seating will be limited to 50 so that Bruce can go from table to table and discuss the wines
with patrons,” Mr Tozer said.
Tickets are $95 per person for the intimate dinner in the Zebu room and can be reserved on
