Fifty-eight CanTeen young people and staff arrived on Saturday and spent just over an hour at the Lions' Den. An additional four young people from the local Port Macquarie district arrived to join the group for the camp.
Ross Adam, of Tacking Point Lions, said for the past four years the Hunter and Northern NSW Division of CanTeen has contacted Tacking Point Lions to seek assistance by providing a meal and respite for the travel weary and hungry.
With Port Macquarie Lions providing 'The Den' at Hamilton Green in case of inclement weather, the members of the two Lions Clubs jointly meet the needs of the young travellers with sandwiches, fresh fruit and cordial, with all costs met by the Lions Clubs.
Mr Adam said that this year the generous assistance of Kenny Little's Munster Street Store has helped defray some of the cost of the fruit and vegetables for which the Lions are extremely grateful.
CanTeen supports young people from 12 to 24 years of age when they are dealing with having cancer themselves or when a parent, brother or sister has been diagnosed with or dies from cancer, and helps them cope with the physical, emotional and practical impact of living with cancer.
Mr Adam said that all the Lions involved on the day felt that they have contributed to a successful camp for all and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
He has been assured by CanTeen that Lions assistance is appreciated and that the staff and young members look forward to a continuation of the relationship in future years.
