More than 10,000 people have registered their new red bin selection in preparation for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's move to a fortnightly red bin collection in September.
Only 353 people have chosen the weekly excess service option.
Council's development and environment director Matt Rogers said there had been a fantastic response from the community with more than 10,000 people choosing their new bin service.
To date, 4349 people selected the fortnightly minimiser service and 5911 people chose the fortnightly standard service.
Mr Rogers said there had been some surprises such as the high level of uptake of the yellow bin upgrade. People have the option of increasing the size of their yellow recycling bin from 240 litres to 360 litres at no cost.
Almost 6000 people have done just that.
"We've received a lot of feedback from the community about the positive environmental and waste management story associated with the change," Mr Rogers said.
The majority of people's concerns about fortnightly red bin collection have been allayed when they become aware about how to dispose of food waste in their green bins.
