However it wasn't the fairy tale start they'd hoped for.
The 2013 reserve grade champions, Bombers (6/6/42) went down to the Coffs Harbour Swans (9/9/63). The Bombers dominated the first half of the game but the Swans found their feet, keeping the Bombers away from the goal posts.
First grade took to the paddock as the skies opened up for their debut in the Mid North Coast AFL comp.
The slippery condition and perhaps some first game nerves enabled the Swans to dominate the game from the outset.
