An Essential Energy spokesman confirmed 530 customers were affected by the incident on Yarranabee Road.
Emergency services were called to the padmounted substation about 4.40pm, the spokesman.
A spokesman for Fire and Rescue NSW said two appliances attended the scene, and traffic was affected as one lane was closed.
The Essential Energy spokesman said workers were on site and working to identify the problem on Friday night.
"Some of our customers will fixed up when we can redirect supply by changing their networks," the spokesman said.
Others, however, will be without power for an unknown time as the substation is repaired. The spokesman said Essential Energy does not anticipate these repairs taking all weekend.
A spokesman for Ambulance NSW confirmed no one was injured during the incident.
