Port Macquarie missed most of the rain which drenched much of the state since Tuesday.
Less than 10 millimetres fell in the four days since Tuesday, which is paltry compared to places like Lismore which recorded about 250 millimetres.
The main trough which has hovered over the state this week is predicted to move offshore on Friday, but will be followed by a secondary trough moving across the east coast.
That trough will linger and be accompanied by south easterly winds on Saturday and Sunday, which will allow for patchy showers.
Saturday is expected to be cloudy, with light showers continuing throughout the day.
Heavier falls are predicted from about lunchtime on Sunday, according to Weatherzone's Ben McBurney.
Mr McBurney said the area can look forward to showers and storms on Sunday, with up to 10 millimetres of rain predicted for parts of the coast.
"There will still be some sunshine around on Sunday," Mr McBurney said.
"It won't be pure, but there will be some sunny intervals."
Weatherzone's models predict dry conditions should return by Tuesday, with a northerly change expected.
Saturday: Possible showers, 27 degrees, 87 per cent humidity.
Sunday: Possible showers, 27 degrees, 95 per cent humidity.
