Fire and Rescue NSW Port Macquarie station officer Frank Finlay said the station began to receive calls about 3.30am on Saturday morning.
He said the Designer Living Kitchens building was well alight on arrival and brigades from Wauchope and Laurieton and Rural Fire Service were also called on to assist to fight the flames and prevent them spreading to adjacent buildings.
About 50 firefighters were on the scene and continued to knock out hot spots throughout the day after the fire was largely extinguished about 9.30am.
Hot sports were generated by the amount of laminate and timber on the site.
Both ends of Acacia Avenue were blocked off until about 2pm to avoid accidents and damage to hoses, Mr Finlay said.
Electricity in the immediate area was switched off by Essential Energy at 3.52am.
Local residents and industrial area workers were warned to stay indoors and close windows to avoid the pungent smoke.
Mr Finlay said there was no health concerns regarding the burning contents of the factory and there had been no injuries sustained.
“It was a great job done by all crews.”
Essential Energy had restored power to the vicinity by 4.50am, except for the immediate Designer Living Kitchens neighbour Cox Plate Cafe which was restored at 1pm.
Firefighters were on the scene up until 9pm on Saturday night but have officially handed the scene over to police.
NSW Police Port Macquarie duty officer Paul Fuller yesterday said a couple of crews were dispatched to the fire site to assist in sealing off the area and a guard was in place until it was considered safe later in the day.
Scientific police and detectives were on site yesterday continuing investigations, he said.
Designer Living Kitchens was known as Olsen’s Joinery for more than 20 years up until 2011.
It is now run by two brothers and their wives and there are showrooms in Laurieton, Coffs Harbour and Ballina.
The Acacia Avenue premises was leased and provided jobs for about 40 workers.
Port News understands the workers have been told their wages and jobs are secure.
The company’s owners were not able to be contacted.
