But we do know the person brave enough to give, through organ donation, has seen a local family gain something priceless. For little Ayden Bird, his liver transplant has meant a second chance at life.
“It’s like a switch has been flicked and he’s come to life,” his mother Jodi said. And, as the Port News met with Ayden again on Thursday, the young boys presence bore testament to those powerful words.
It is almost incomprehensible how much he has changed since his operation in December.
Ayden is beaming with life and light, in such a way, it almost seems the youngster is making up for lost time.
When we first met him in 2012, the West Haven boy was being bullied because of jaundice, a greenish tinge of the skin, resulting from his condition.
Today, the five-year-old is a living legacy of the power of organ donation.
