Well, they are partially right. The overall effort from passing motorists, those first on the scene – including college staff, the students and the local hospital emergency staff all deserve recognition in this case.
The extent of care offered to the injured students and bus driver was comprehensive, fearless and without hesitation. No doubt the diligent work in the moments after the accident helped the healing process both physically and emotionally for those involved.
But the work of the three students deserves hero status as well. In Australia, the Good Samaritan act offers indemnity to those administering the aid in a lifethreatening crisis. But there’s a big leap between knowing that and jumping in to help in the face of danger.
We are in awe of the students, their upbringing and their outstanding moral compass.
