The event soon outgrew the venue and was moved to the reserve at Town Beach where about 100 volunteers now help set up and serve up a delicious festive meal for anyone who would otherwise be spending their Christmas alone.
“There are no judgments here,” Mrs Davies said.
“It’s just one big family where everyone is accepted and you can come as you are.”
Mrs Davies said about 400 people came to the event last year throughout the day.
She starts planning and making calls in August to get donations and discounts from local businesses for the day.
“We have marquees donated, gifts, toys and people are so generous.”
“We couldn’t do it without the donations, some of which have helped from the start.
“It would happen without our volunteers either,” she said.
The menu on the day consists of sausages, ham, chicken and turkey, pasta, potato and tossed salads, coleslaw, fruit platters and cake.
The volunteers arrive early on Christmas morning and have the area all set up by 10am and people are welcome from 10.30am.
Santa will arrive at 1pm on board a Port Macquarie Fire Brigade truck.
Anything left over is donated to the Women and Children’s Refuge and McCosker House.
“Almost the whole town helps out,” Mrs Davies said. “It melts your heart.”
There’s no need to book, and it’s on rain or shine, but if you have questions call Karen on 6584 4233.
