MACQUARIE Hotel, Port Panthers Pirates and Port City Leagues Magpies got their May Kelly Cup Twenty20 campaigns off to a flying start on Saturday.
There were some big winning scores and some low winning totals as batsmen had a mixed day in the shortest format of the game.
Macquarie's batsmen had the best day, scoring 5-196 against Camden Haven at Oxley Oval.
The Haven could only manage 9-120 in reply, and it was always going to be tough with Brendan Badenoch at the top of his mark.
Badenoch's tail was up and he even broke one of the stumps at one point.
Port City Leagues Magpies had a fantastic day, winning both of their scheduled matches.
The Pies beat Wauchope RSL by six wickets in the first game before knocking over Comboyne by seven wickets in the second.
They only had to score 63 and 78 to win.
Port Panthers Pirates got their first win of the season, and celebrated like they'd won the grand final.
The Pirates batted first and scored 104 against Camden Haven. They rolled the Haven for 96.
Captain Rod Morton said the win coincided with the team's Twenty20 outfit.
"It must have been the flashy new strip," he said.
They shared the runs. Morton made 36 and Dave Firkin 25.
Morton was relieved to open the account.
"It was good to get that monkey off our backs, especially before Christmas," he said.
