Fighting brothers shine

BOXING

A PAIR of Port Macquarie boxing brothers are set for big things in the sport, after strong showings at the Ringside World Championships.

Blake and Luke Travers punched well above their weights at Kansas City, with Blake scoring victories against the two-time Canadian champ, along with the ringside world champion.

Luke lost his bout by just one point. His opponent who beat Luke went on to be crowned world champion.

"He had to fight in the seniors," the pair's father and trainer John Travers said.

"There were guys there in their 30s."

There were about 2000 competitors taking part in the championships.

John said he was immensely proud of his fighters and the way they have gone about business.

"It's unbelievable," he said.

"They both went over there without their trainer.

"I couldn't even go with them."

Blake may now be off to Canada for a return bout with his opponent.

"But we're not 100 per cent sure," John said.

The pair are now on the lookout for sponsorship to allow for more bouts and for their father to travel with them.
