MACQUARIE skipper Michael Pelley said his team is running out of time to record some wins.
He said while it wasn't quiet do-or-die just yet, they needed to start improving their strike rate.
It will be a tough ask for Macquarie who take on Comboyne this weekend at Laurieton Oval.
The Port side was defeated by Comboyne in the first round of competition when they were all out for a dismall 102 runs.
Pelley admitted it was the batting that had to lift.
"Our batsmen as a group really need to stand up," he said. "We've had probably one decent total in three games. Myself and the two Hyde brothers (Ethan and Josh) should really be scoring a good percentage of our total."
Pelley admitted it would be a tough ask this weekend and said Comboyne were a strong side all round the park.
"I'm impressed with their side," he said. "They're balanced with the bat and they've added a couple senior blokes this year. They will be a tough side and they deserve to do well."
He said Michael Smith was one of Comboyne's most threatening players along with captain Andrew Glover.
"They've both been going really well and ticking the runs over," he said. "Andrew has been one of the best batters around but he has also developed his bowling and is now one of the best bowlers going around too. Pelley said he wouldn't need much excuse on Saturday to send his team into to bat first if he managed to win the toss.
"It all depends on the pitch condition on the day but I'm a big believer in batting first and setting a solid total," he said.
In the other games on the weekend Wauchope RSL play Camden Haven at Andrews Park and Port City Leagues Magpies take on Port Panthers Pirates at the Oxley Oval.
All games kick off at 1pm.
