Led by Port Macquarie’s Melissa Norup, North Coastal bowled New Coasters out for just 36 to take the game.
Things didn’t look good after North Coastal’s 20 overs. The team scored just 86.
Captain Angela Reakes led the way with the bat, making 34 not out. Sancrox’s Kate Jackson made 11.
Norup starred with the ball. She destroyed the Coasters’ top order, taking 3-1 from three overs.
Jackson
was on a hat-trick at one stage and returned figures of 2-2 from her two overs.
The wickets kept tumbling as the Coastal team had the ball on a string.
There was also some good fielding inside the circle as the Coastal team snared a couple of quick run outs.
Coastal keeper Georgia Redmayne, from Alstonville, was sharp behind the stumps. She got eight stumpings for the tournament, including five yesterday.
Team manager Rod Hodson was thrilled with his side’s effort all
carnival.
“The girls have gelled well,” he said.
“They all get along well.”
Six new players joined the ranks this season, most of them from the under 15s team.
It looked as if the team would fall at the final hurdle though, before shining with the ball.
“It’s that same old cliche of it’s good to have the runs on the board,” Hodson said.
A couple of quick wickets at the top of the innings helped things immensely.
“That’s just what we needed,” Hodson said.
Norup, he said, was the standout.
“She bowled a nice, full length,” Hodson said.
“She was moving it around a bit.
“Kara [Sutherland] bowled well at the start too.”
The Coastal team beat the Hastings Cavaliers, Central North and Western on the way to the decider.
The win over the Cavaliers was big. Coastal chased down 119 with the loss of just one wicket.
