The town will host a cricketing extravaganza with the NSW Breakers taking to the field for two twenty20 matches which pit City against Country.
NSW Breakers star Ellyse Perry will be the star attraction to the event. Perry is a dual international, having represented Australia in cricket and football. Alyssa Healy will also be a part of the team. She is former Test wicketkeeper Ian Healy’s niece.
Before those matches though there’s the NSW Country Women’s Cricket Championships. Six teams from across regional NSW will fight it out for the title.
Jackson is a talented all-rounder, while Coelho sends some fast-medium deliveries down and Norup hits the wicket hard.
That team will be led by Breakers Angela Reakes and Kara Sutherland.
Reakes is a top-class legspinner and solid bat while Sutherland should extract plenty from the Hastings pitches with her left-arm quick deliveries.
Bourke said Sutherland had more than a bit of pace.
“Sutherland’s a seriously fast bowler,” Bourke said. “If she played first grade here she’d be worrying lots of batsmen.”
Championships play gets underway at 9am on Saturday and Sunday at Oxley Oval, Wayne Richards Park and Andrews Park, Wauchope.
The final is set down for Wayne Richards Park on Sunday at 1pm. The first T20 match will follow that.
The second City v Country clash is set down for 10am Monday, also at Wayne Richards Park.
