ART, music, skate parks and even a tour of a rubbish tip are part of a packed week of activities to celebrate Local Government Week.
The week is designed to highlight the importance of local government to the community and starts on Monday.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will hold a variety of special events throughout the week, inviting the residents to find out more about the programs, services and activities council provides.
This year's theme is "Local Knowledge, Local Services, Local Communities".
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council general manager Tony Hayward said the activities were designed to showcase the unique and extensive services provided by council.
"The week provides residents a wonderful opportunity to learn more about their local Council and with activities and tours for all ages, I encourage everyone to get involved," Mr Hayward said
"The variety of activities planned for Local Government Week will provide great insight into the facilities and the diversity of our operations as well as the people who work here and the services we deliver to the community on a daily basis."
Events in the Hastings will start a little earlier, with a community open day to celebrate the third anniversary of the Glasshouse on Saturday. The open day will include free guided tours through the facility from 10am and free children's art activities in the foyer.
Other events during Local Government Week will include a library display showcasing a snapshot of council's completed project works, a guided tour of the region's best sporting facilities and a pet-themed storytime at Port Macqu arie library.
In conjunction with council's new Move, Eat, Live Well program, residents can also take part in a Heart Foundation walk along Port Macquarie's Coastal Walk.
