Man badly hurt in caravan park fight

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a fight at a caravan park in Port Macquarie.

Two men became involved in an altercation at a caravan park on Hastings River Drive, about 4.30pm on Saturday.

During the incident, a 67-year-old man was allegedly punched to the head, causing him to fall heavily to the ground.

Police from Mid North Coast Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance Paramedics attended the scene.

The man was airlifted by rescue helicopter to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for emergency treatment.

He remains in a critical condition with severe head injuries.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station for questioning.

He was subsequently released without charge pending further inquiries.
