The speed limit dropped from 100km/h to 80km/h after a Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) review.
Pembrooke Road resident Peter Hrncir has seen an increase in traffic in about the past decade.
“I thought it was a good thing,” he said about the speed limit reduction. “The road is very narrow and not kept very well.”
Pembrooke Road is the back road between Telegraph Point and Beechwood.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has formally adopted the directive to reduce the speed limit in Pembrooke Road to 80km/h.
Council’s director infrastructure services Jeffery Sharp said the RMS identified the 100km/h speed limit along Pembrooke Road from Beechwood Road to Mooney Street as a safety concern.
A number of factors were considered, including traffic accident history, road surface condition and the frequency of heavy traffic.
The changed limit is estimated to extend travel time by about two to three minutes a trip.
“While some road users may find the changed speed zone inconvenient, ensuring the safety of motorists on our road network is council’s primary focus,” Mr Sharp said.
The new signs have gone up. Dawn Etherington has lived at Pembrooke Road for three decades and said the speed limit reduction didn’t worry her.
“I don’t think the road is good enough for 100km,” she said.
