Mate v Mate as league legends butt heads over Origin decider

NSW legend Steve “Blocker” Roach reckons NSW has the defensive capabilities to end Queensland’s six-year State of Origin reign tonight.

Roach was in Port Macquarie with the Continuous Call team on Saturday, and took time out to have a chat with the Port News.

Blocker said the Blues’ defence should win the decider.

“One of this side’s great assets is its defence,” he said.

“I think it’s frustrated them (Queensland).

“We’ve got a young, fit, mobile pack. They’ve got a bit of age in them.”

“The Big Marn” Darryl Brohman disagreed.

He said there were a few “simple” reasons why the Cane Toads would win yet another series.

“They have a better team, they’re playing at Suncorp Stadium and I’m a Queenslander,” he said.

“Do you need any other

reasons?”

Roach was again involved in the NSW camp this year.

He said during Saturday’s live broadcast from the Town Green that it was the best he’d been part of.

He also said it was one of the biggest Origin games in

history.

Meanwhile, Port Macquarie’s Ray Budick got a chance to catch up with an old playing partner during the visit.

Budnick played rugby league with Bob Fulton while in the army, and had a chat with the Immortal.
