Post mortem results still pending

Police have questioned and charged a 53-year-old female Hill Street resident with failure to stop and render assistance following a vehicle impact causing death.

The woman was released on conditional bail to reappear in Port Macquarie Local Court on July 16.

The incident occurred on Hill Street at about 6pm Wednesday evening.

Police gathered evidence at the scene and the following day urged the then unidentified driver to come forward.

Later that afternoon a green 2000 model Mazda 323 was recovered from a Port Macquarie vehicle repair business and the owner of the vehicle arrested.

Police have said it is too early in the investigation to speculate if drugs, alcohol or speed were contributing factors in the death.

As part of their investigation police said they were trying to pinpoint the driver’s movements prior to the accident.
