THIEVES have devastated a Port Macquarie dance studio by taking money raised for the group’s overseas dance excursion.
Wauchope Port Macquarie Performing Arts principal Stacey Morgan arrived at her Central Road studio on Monday to find precious tutus crushed and water damaged by rain coming through a hole the culprits had cut in a roof panel to enter the building.
“They didn’t take our computers, but they took about $350, a lot of which was coins from a guessing competition and raffle at our trivia night on Saturday,” Ms Morgan said.
The school and its supporters have held various events to raise $1000 for each of the 22 dancers heading to America next year.
The students will perform at Disneyland, Hollywood Boulevard and take classes from The Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles on the eight-day trip.
Fortunately, the deposit money the students had paid on Sunday went directly to the travel agents and was not on the premises.
