The Nationals' candidate for Lyne, David Gillespie, said he respected Rob Oakeshott’s decision to retire from federal politics.
“I thank the Member for Lyne for his service to the community over the past 17 years firstly as a Nationals State member and in more recent times as an independent Member and I acknowledge his decision to retire at this year’s election,” Mr Gillespie said.
“As I’ve been doing since last July, I will continue to work tirelessly to make sure that the people of the Mid North Coast have a seat at the table of the next Nationals and Liberal federal government”
“I wish Rob Oakeshott, his wife Sara-Jane and his children all the best for the future,” Mr Gillespie said.
And Labor candidate for Lyne Peter Alley tweeted this:
Rob Oakeshott has been a passionate advocate for the people of Lyne. I wish him and his family all the best for their future.
