A POOCH that helped save the lives of his furry friends has died.
Border collie Toby, the seven-year-old best mate of Animal Doctors Port Macq uarie veterinarian Steven Rose died last month after battling cancer.
Dr Rose and his family decided to put Toby down to end his suffering.
Toby saved lives through his blood donations to animals treated at the clinic.
In a newsletter sent to clients, Dr Rose said it was a "sudden and devastating diagnosis and choice" to put Toby down.
"Toby was a very special boy, too hard to describe what he meant to us, with his beautiful personality. He is dearly missed," Dr Rose wrote.
A grief-stricken Dr Rose said speaking about his loss was difficult.
"Maybe over the coming months I will post something as a tribute, but in the meantime: We love you mate, rest in peace."
Dr Rose wished to inform his clients about Toby's passing especially those who knew Toby, petting him when he came to work with the vet.
Toby helped spread the word about the importance of keeping pets warm during cooler months in the Port News in June.
