That is if newly-crowned World Boxing Federation and Women’s International Boxing Association World Title holder, Arlene ‘Angerfist’ Blencowe, and her trainer Jason Harris have their way.
Blencowe, who trains out of Port Macquarie’s Allegiance Combat and Fitness Centre, defeated veteran Kiwi ‘Diamond’ Daniella Smith, last week to claim the titles.
Blencowe accepted the fight at the last minute after original opponent Sarah Howett pulled out through injury.
Blencowe went on to win the bout in a unanimous points decision.
She is now required to defend her titles against Howett within 90 days, and both fighter and trainer said there was no reason why the bout couldn’t be held in the local region.
“That’s something that’s definitely in the back of our mind,” Harris said as Blencowe and her entourage returned from New Zealand.
“We pretty much have control as to where we want to fight, but at the same time, both parties have to agree. There’s absolutely no reason why we couldn’t be holding it here in Port Macquarie.
“It would be huge for the area to have something like that here.”
Blencowe, still buzzing from her victory across the ditch, told of her excitement at the prospect of defending her titles at home.
“It’s really exciting to think I could be fighting to defend my titles at home,” she said. “I’ve fought Sarah before and I have been chasing a rematch with her for a while now anyway.”
Because of the short turn-around, Blencowe had only five days to prepare for Thursday’s fight, despite that, the Port Macquarie product dominated the ring.
“I felt like I was in control for the majority of the fight,” she said. “The scoring showed that, I out pointed her in every round.”
